The Department of English is one of the most dynamic and vibrant departments of the college, dedicated to the pursuit of academic excellence and the cultivation of language, literature, and critical thought. Since its establishment in 1937, the year of the establishment of L.D. Arts College, the department has played a significant role in nurturing students’ intellectual growth, communication skills, and creative expression through the study of English language and literature.

The department engages in rich pedagogical delivery that introduces students to British, American, Indian, and World Literatures, along with courses in phonetics, literary theory, and communication skills. English is offered as a subject under the Skill Enhancement Course to students from the first semester till the fifth semester. Hence, even those students who have not opted for English as a Major subject, are definitely engaged to study English as the global language.
