B.A. in Sociology

The Department of Sociology was established in 1937. This department is an important department of the L.D. Arts College.  The college runs at the UG level (in Gujarati Medium).

           This is not just a subject that taught in classroom but it is the important perspective which helps the youth in their development as well as to solve the problems of youth in present time.

           The department gives understanding that, Sociology is also science like other science. The department is always encouraged students to develop interest in research. Dr N.P.Verma is the head of the department. He has been completed Ph D of 8 students and this tradition is also has been continued. Students are persistently consulted to promote principles and practical utility of sociology.

            The true strength of department of sociology lies in its highly qualified and dedicated faculty members, whose passion for teaching and research creates an intellectually stimulating learning environment. Their classrooms are centers of active engagement, where students are encouraged to question assumptions, interpret data, and engage in meaningful discussions on pressing social issues. Through their mentorship, students are guided not only toward academic achievement but also toward becoming responsible and informed decision makers.

            Department organizes seminar every year to being informed students about Origin and Development of Sociology and Concept of Sociology, position and role of women and Dalits community, Social Research and problems of society.

              Apart from academic field, sociology department also organize visit to social organizations. Students understand activities of social organizations by own physical visits.  Students are taken to villages and slums areas so students are being informed about lifestyle and problems of people of particular area. In addition, awareness programs also organized to understand social, economic problems and religious  superstition in society.

               Sociology department is focused about scientific study of research and social problems. Faculty of the department gives comprehensive contribution to educational literature by various publications and research projects. With a firm belief in transformative power of knowledge, the department is committed to develop youth as socially conscious and analytically strong at national and international level.

               The department of sociology thus serves not merely as a centre for academic learning, but as a social responsibility where the ideas are shaped, policies are understood and futures are envisioned.
