Profile & Overview

The Department of Geography has had a glorious history of nine long decades, having been introduced in the year 1937, when L. D. Arts as a college was established. Since then, it has been one of the most vibrant and intellectually enriching department of the College.

It is distinguished by its commitment to academic excellence and the holistic development of its students. Since its inception, the department has played a pivotal role in shaping generations of students by fostering knowledge of physical and human elements of the earth’s surface, cartographic proficiency, mapping skills, creativity and sensitizing them to the environment.

Throughout its journey, the department has maintained an excellent academic record, with students achieving university ranks and distinctions. Several alumni of the department have gone on to establish successful careers as teachers to professors and principals of reputed institutions of learning. Also as, advocates, police, civil servants and professionals in diverse fields. Their accomplishments reflect the strong foundation and values instilled by the Department.

Technical Spatial Skills: Developing mapping and cartographic skills, relief depiction and data representation on maps, interpretation of Survey of India Toposheets and Weather Maps, proficiency in using basic ground survey instruments, acquaintance with latest geo-spatial techniques.
